Emir Of Kano Urges Nigerians To Pick Up Arms, Defend Against Boko Haram
"People should not sit idle and say prayer is the only solution. People should be made aware of the importance of being in a state of preparedness and make sure they acquire what they need to protect themselves. We should be ready to give our lives."-Sanusi said at a prayer meeting. The statements come after a suicide bomber detonated explosives and killing several civilians at a petrol station in Kano last Friday. Despite having deployed soldiers to Nigeria’s northeastern region, where Boko Haram has declared a caliphate, government security forces have been unable to secure communities from the Boko Haram threat. Responding to the Emir’s call for communities to defend themselves from Boko Haram insurgents, the nation’s police force is counter-advising civilians to refrain from picking up arms. "Any call for citizens to arm themselves is a call for anarchy and lawlessness. And this is not allowed under our laws. Such a call should be disregarded. The police [force] is living up to its duty to protect lives and property." said police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu. Source: Sahara Reporters
N100m Scam: EFCC Says Femi Fani-Kayode Must Answer Money-Laundering Charges
A statement by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said Fani-Kayode was arraigned on an amended 40-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of about N100, 219,500, but the court held that he must prepare his defence on two other charges. "The prosecution has made a prima facie case on count 25 and 26 and as a result, the accused should appear before the court and open his defense on the mentioned counts," the judge said as she discharged and acquitted Fani-Kayode on all other counts. At the last hearing, after the EFCC had concluded its case against the former minister, he elected not to put in a defense and instead filed a no-case submission in which he argued that the EFCC had failed to establish a prima facie case of fraud against him. He argued that there was no nexus between him and the alleged offence. However, the EFCC urged the court to dismiss the no-case submission on the ground that it was incompetent and frivolous, and also prayed the court to order Fani- Kayode to open his defense on the charges. Justice Ajumogobia adjourned the matter till December 5th, 2014 for continuation of trial. It remains unclear how the EFCC expects a victory over Mr. Fani-Kayode in court when he enjoys the protection of President Goodluck Jonathan after defecting to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) a few months ago.
Activities at Lagos Federal Government Hospitals Stalled as Health Workers Continue Strik
Activities across Federal Government hospitals in Lagos on Monday remained stalled as the strike embarked on by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) entered day five.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the union had on Nov. 13 embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their demands.
Some of their demands include immediate release of circular on adjustment of salary since January 2014 and immediate payment of at least two months arrears.
Others are immediate and full payment of arrears of salaries of CONHESS since the year 2010 and immediate release of circular on adjustment of salary since January 2014.
A visit by NAN to some of the hospitals showed that health workers were complying with the strike as only very few people were seen within the hospitals.
The hospitals visited are the National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Igbobi, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Meta and Lagos University Teaching Hospital, (LUTH) Idi-Araba.
Some patients on appointment were turned back as health personnel were unavailable to attend to them at the different hospitals.
Speaking to NAN, the Chairman, JOHESU, Lagos Chapter, Ibe Nwokenta, said the union had resolved not to suspend the strike until their demands were met.
“We have been going around the hospitals to make sure our members are complying with the directive.
“It is the government that forced us and allowed the situation to get to this point of strike.
“Since we have started we are not going back and there is no way patients will be attended to in this situation,’’ he said.
He urged the government to heed the demands of the union so that activities at the hospitals would be normal once again.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Medical and Health Workers Union, Igbobi branch, Segun Siwoku, said that 99 per cent of patients at the hospital were discharged since Nov. 14.
He said that the hospital was complying with the strike and other departments, including the X-ray centres and the pharmacies.
“You can see when you go round the hospital, it is only a few patients that are still in the ward and will be discharged soon.
“This health issue is a team work and without health workers, the doctors cannot work.
“We appeal to the government to do what is expected of it in order for us to go back to work,” he said.
In his remarks, the Public Relations Officer, Nurses Union, Igbobi branch, Samuel Awodele, said the health workers were part of the health team.
Awodele said that “during the time of the Ebola outbreak, we the health workers were on ground to monitor the disease and make sure it was kicked out of Nigeria.
“And at that time, the doctors were not around for two months, they were on strike but we were on ground to attend to patients.
“Until our demands are met, we are not going to turn down our fight for our rights’’.
Two patients who spoke to NAN said that they were disappointed and appealed to the health workers to resume work in order to save lives.
Rebecca Atifie, said that she had been on admission since Nov. 12 after undergoing a surgery at Igbobi hospital.
Atifie said she was not happy with the development as she needed to get treatment to get well.
“I am not happy that the strike is on.
“I do not know what to do now as my leg that was cut off during surgery needs to be treated.
“I am appealing to the government to heed the demands of the workers and prevent further delay of medical treatment of patients,’’ she said. Another patient, Ejiro Enajite, said he visited the hospital to get a medical report and was surprised that he was not being attended to. Enajite said: “I need my medical report for another important event, only to come to the hospital and be turned back. “I wonder when all these strike issue will be resolved once and for all. “We need stability in our health institutions and the government should ensure that,” he said. The Public Relations Officer of LUTH, Hope Nwawolo, called for a quick resolution of the strike because of the effect it was having on patient care. “In the mean time, our doctors are doing their best and going beyond their specific duties to help the patients as much as they can but this is not a sustainable solution,” she said.

Buhari's campaign organization known as Buhari Vanguard took to their Facebook page this morning to compare the crowd at Buhari's Declaration a few weeks ago at Eagles Square and Pres. Jonathan's Declaration yesterday at the same venue, writing; "The turn out at President Jonathan's declaration at the eagles square in Abuja yesterday, irrespective of the billions of Naira spent to rent people is a clear indication that President Goodluck Jonathan is on his own with his ambition. Muhammadu Buhari of the APC declared at the same Eagles square and there was no space for people to even stand. 2face Idibia Kinsmen battle him for refusing to build in his village; throw stones at his mother
There is a looming war between the family of Idibia Ije and the Amafu community in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State as the villagers had vowed to hold Tuface and his siblings hostage for refusing to complete his house in the village.
In fact, Tuface’s mum, Mrs. Rose Idibia narrowly escaped death on Thursday night after she was attacked by her husband’s kinsmen for not allowing Tuface to complete his house in the village.
DailyPost exclusively gathered that problem started after Mr. Idibia breathed his last in faraway India and the family invited the four children to inform them of what to do.
It was learnt that one of the conditions given by the Idibia family was for Tuface to build a befitting house where his father would be laid to rest, since he is the star among them.
It was also gathered that the immediate family members pleaded with the children to grade the road leading to Amufu, their home town from Ojapo for easy access during the burial.
Tuface, it was learnt agreed and promised to do as they had demanded.
To keep to his promise, the singer sent in some money and the building project and the upgrading of the road kick started almost immediately.
This development made all residents to go ballistic as several prayers and encomiums were poured on their proud son, Innocent, popularly known as Tuface.
It was gathered that some farmers, whose crops were close to the roads were asked to uproot their crops to enable the project move freely; this they did with all enthusiasm and without grudges.
However, along the line, the projects suddenly stopped, leaving the people, including Tuface’s uncles in the dark.
When Tuface was contacted, he told them he no longer had money to continue the project and that he would continue after his father’s burial.
This irked his kinsmen, who vowed never to lay the deceased to rest until Tuface fulfilled his promise.
Those who were not satisfied with Tuface’s excuse embarked on investigation and discovered that it was his mum, Rose that allegedly stopped him from completing the project.
“The mum told him not to waste his money on any building, that he would not come home anytime to stay there; that his uncles would only take over the house once he completes it”, an indigene who craved anonymity told this reporter.
Several efforts to convince Tuface to continue the project hit the rocks, prompting the people to take the revenge on him and his mum as soon as they returned with the corpse.
DailyPost observed that as soon as the corpse touched down in Amufu and the widow alighted, youths in the area began to jeer her.
Others were seen throwing stones and sticks at her, calling her all sort of names depicting a wicked person.
Some mockingly called her ‘Obu Michael’ (Michael’s husband) while others said she must pay for the crops they uprooted.
She was sneaked into a room by her colleagues from Cherryfield College, Jikwoyi where she serves as Vice Principal.
Not yet done, when the pal bearers tried to take the casket inside, the
youths again revolted that the corpse should be kept outside.
The women in the village also insisted that a hut should be built for the widow, Mrs. Idibia since her husband had no house in the village.
This protest lasted for hours before it was brought under control by elders in the village.
While this lasted, Tuface stayed glued inside his car with two of his kids, Isabella and Olivia, with security men fully on guard as the youths vowed to beat him up for listening to his mum.
When the Priest in charge of St. Camel Catholic Church, Ojapo invited Mrs. Idibia to explain her own side of the story, she blasted her in-laws for being heartless by calling on a child, who is mourning to come and build a house in the village.
According to a visibly angry Mrs. Idibia, who hails from Ogege, Amafu’s next door neighbour, it was unfair that the people were accusing her of stopping her son from building in his own town.
She explained that if she were against the project, she wouldn’t had allowed Tuface to start in the first place.
“Is it not wickedness that you would call on someone who is mourning his father to come and start a building project? When my husband died, they informed my son to come and build ten bed room flat. He accepted and promised to do so, with the hope that a hug amount of money was coming his way. The building project started almost immediately but stopped along the line because of finance. So, when they called to complain that money was no longer coming, I called Tuface and he said because of the Ebola issue, the money he was expecting could not come, that they should hold on till after the burial. But his uncles refused, insisting that the burial would not hold until Tuface completed the house.
“When we finally came home with the corpse on Thursday, they began to boo me. Some wanted to kill me by throwing stones and sticks at me, that I stopped Tuface my son from building in his village”, she explained amidst tears.
The cleric in his reponse told Mrs. Idibia that the people were not wrong for demanding for a house, but that they went too far by jeering and hulling stones at her.
He, however, pleaded with the Idibias to exercise patience until after the burial since the children won’t run away.
Pa. Idibia was finally laid to rest but the community is insisting that Tuface must complete the building or he would remain in the village.
A villager told our reporter that Tuface, the second son of Mr. Idibia, was almost beaten by some youths the last time he came to the village for his grand mother’s burial, for abandoning his people.
It was learnt that Tuface refused to invite any of his star friends because of the humiliation he always faced in his home town.
Only his manager, Efe Omoregbe and few bouncers came for the burial.
However, a Rev. Father, who would not want his name in print, lambasted the Amufu community for being so wicked by forcing a man to build a house.
“I have never seen where someone is being forced to build a house in his village. Do they know his statement of account? Is it because Tuface is popular? Is he a politician, why are they forcing him to grade the community road? Is he the local government chairman? They better stop this nonsense. This kind of culture is total rubish and must be stopped”, he warned.
Another resident flayed Tuface for listening to his mum by not completing the projects.
“See, let the truth be told, I am ashamed. Imagine Tubaba of all people facing this kind of humiliation. How much will it cost him to build a house here in the village? I am sure he has houses outside the state. That to me is not fair. Go to Otukpa and see the mansion TerryG built there. His parents are not in the village but he did so in case of tomorrow.
“You can see that the shame could not allow him bring his friends to the village. May God help him”, the resident who also pleaded anonymity told DailyPost in Okpoga.
When DailyPost contacted Tuface’s manager, Efe Omoregbe, he denied knowledge of the development.

Supporters’ Rented For Jonathan Declaration Protest Non-Payment Of Stipend
Thousands of rented supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan today staged an embarrassing sit-down protest throughout his official declaration at Eagle Square in Abuja to show their anger over non-payment of their N2000 per head fee.
According to Sahara reporters Thousands of rented supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan today staged an embarrassing sit-down protest throughout his official declaration at Eagle Square in Abuja to show their anger over non-payment of their N2000 per head fee.
The hired supporters, who converged at the venue of the event as early as 7.00am, maintained that their handlers had failed to pay the money promised to them. A visibly-angry supporter who pleaded anonymity expressed his displeasure over the nonchalant attitude of some of the leaders of the various groups who brought them to the event for not showing any concern for their welfare despite the long distances they had to travel. “They asked us to enter the bus when they came to Maraba this morning and they promised to give us two thousand Naira each and also give us food but we are very disappointed to see them running around and later disappear into the middle of the crowd and nobody come back to give any money or bring water for us to drink.” Effort to get any of the leaders to react to the allegations was fruitless as their mobile phone numbers were switched off. Senate Threatens To Impeach President Jonathan
latest reports coming out of the Nigerian Senate inform that President Goodluck Jonathan may no longer have a grip on the upper legislative chamber of the Senate.
According to Thisday report, some senators of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday threatened to impeach President Jonathan for working against their political interests in their various states.
It was gathered that the lawmakers also vowed to team up with the House of Representatives to impeach the president if doing so eventually becomes an option they would have to explore.
This decision was the fallout of the closed-door session held by the PDP caucus in the Senate in protest of their losses at last Saturday’s congresses of the ruling party in their various states.
A cross-section of the Nigerian Senate.
The senators are alleging that they lost out because of the alleged betrayal by the president whom they said they had supported prior to his emergence as acting president on February 9, 2009 up to this last weekend.
Investigation revealed that in a bid to show their bitterness towards the president, the senators boycotted
legislative activities on Tuesday by adjourning sitting without considering a single item on the Order Paper.
The senators also vowed to repeat the same during plenary on Wednesday, threatening that the trend would continue indefinitely until the president addressed their grievances.
President Gooduck Jonathan.
The action is, among others, meant to frustrate the consideration and prompt passage of the 2015 budget and Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), as they threatened to also shut down the government in pursuit of their personal goals.
One of the aggrieved senators that briefed journalists after the meeting, said with their resolve to abandon legislative business indefinitely, the president is not only losing the House of Representatives but has also lost the Senate.
“You are aware that we adjourned sitting today. That is what we will continue to do. President Goodluck Jonathan has lost the Senate.
“Since he has left the PDP structures in the hands of the governors, let the governors also come and do our jobs. We are going to shut the government.
“What is it that the president asked that we’ve not given to him? We are going to show solidarity with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal. We will not sit again. There will be no consideration of the MTEF (Medium Term Expenditure Framework) and there will be no budget. We may also begin his impeachment.
“When we invoked the doctrine of necessity, we even proceeded to give him the full option. We did the same thing on the state of emergency. But now, he has lost the Senate.
“By the time the House of Representatives resumes on December 3, most of the PDP members in the House would have lost their return bids and they will quickly move to APC and populate the party,” the senator told newsmen.
It was gathered that Tuesday’s session was presided over by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu as the Senate President David Mark was said to be attending the National Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa.
However, the senators who said they had the full backing of their APC counterparts in their resolve to shut down the chamber, added that if Mark opts to stall the move, he would have to be abandoned and be left to preside over an empty chamber.
It was also learnt that most of the PDP senators whose fate has been sealed are already knocking at the doors of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), asking to be allowed to fly the party’s flag in the next election.
Another source informed that the Senate resolved to shut down legislative business because governors have been empowered by the PDP headquarters to deny them re-election tickets.
The source informed that the Senate would in the next few days show openly its solidarity with House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, whose defection from PDP to the APC has caused a huge row.
He insisted that they are prepared to fight their battle with any weapon open to them, wondering why the President and first-time PDP governors are given automatic tickets and legislators are not.
Beyonce Tops 2014 List of Top-Earning Women in Music
According to Forbes, Beyoncé is the highest paid woman in music in 2014. She made over $115million this year, more than double what she pulled in last year, The huge sum, most of which was from her world tour, propelled Beyoncé, 33, from fourth place last year and put her firmly ahead of pop star Taylor Swift, 24, who came in 2nd with $64 million. Pop singer Pink, 35, climbed up from No. 8 in 2013 to third with $52 million. 'Beyonce played 95 shows during our scoring period, bringing in an average of $2.4 million per city,' said Forbes, citing data from the Pollstar trade magazine. The R&B singer's self-titled album released last December and endorsement deals pushed her earnings up further assuring her the top spot. Barbados-born Rihanna, 26, came in 4th with $48 million and Katy Perry, 30, who earned an estimated $40 million, ranked 5th. Madonna, 56, who ranked No. 1 last year, failed to make the top 10 in 2014. Lady Gaga, 28, slumped from No. 2 in 2013 to ninth place this year with estimated earnings of $33 million. Forbes compiled the list after estimating pre-tax income calculated for the 12 months from June 2013 to 2014 based on record sales, concert tickets, touring information merchandise sales and interviews with concert promoters, lawyers and managers. It also looked at data from the Pollstar, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.
Peculiar Okafor: Seems To Be Changing Mouth
celebrity‘Feminist until you get married
Activist until you get rich
Atheist until the airplane starts falling’.
This is one quote that aptly describes how we tend to dance to a different tune (Change mouth as we used to say when we were little) when our situation in life changes. You know those kind of people who speak vehemently about something until they get the opportunity to do it? Those are the kind of people this article seeks to describe.
We all have that one person who once swore that their rich uncle’s wife was the laziest and most extravagant woman ever. I mean how could the aunt in question dare to have a house help, go shopping everyday and not even allow her husband help the people around him. Then this friend gets married to a wealthy husband and then realizes that the challenges that accompany the lifestyle might have been what necessitated the aunt’s behavior. At this point, she changes mouth and starts saying things like ‘You can’t help everybody oh’ ‘The challenges of handling all the people that visit us as well as my day job has made me get 5 maids’, ‘I have to change my Wardrobe constantly so I don’t embarrass my husband’ bla bla bla. You’re changing mouth!
What about the folks who criticize others for spending so much money on their children’s education saying things like ‘Is it not just ABC?, ‘we attended schools where we didn’t have to pay that much’, ‘A child that will be successful will be successful’ only to make some money and spend millions on their children’s education saying things like ‘Children need the right grooming and circle of friends to compete on a global scale’ Issokay, we haff heard you oh! but …..errrm, you’re changing mouth sha.
The ladies who swear that they would never get married to a man if he doesn’t have the TDHGRT factor ( Tall, Dark, Handsome, Generous, Rich and Tush factor) only to get married to someone far off the mark. When you try to explain it by saying things like ‘I just got older and realized that what really mattered was if he had potential as well as my happiness, peace and contentment’ we agree with you, but my sister thou hast changed mouth full-stop.
The guys are not left out too. When you diss your friend’s wife, swearing that you would only marry a woman with Halle Berry’s looks, Beyonce’s curves, Shakira’s dance skills and Michelle Obama’s intelligence and then end up with the average girl, your explanation of ‘when I met her, I knew she was the one so I had to let go of the other contenders and every requirement I had on my list and just claim her’ – while sweet and inspiring doesn’t change the fact that you have changed mouth.
Finally, those activists who criticize the government only to get a political appointment and become major champions of the government, we get it, you’re only doing your job, but you have changed mouth.
The essence of this write-up is not to cast aspersions on anybody in order to be funny. The real lesson is for us to realize that you really cannot speak about any thing untill you have experienced it. My mother used to say that the right to criticize is earned hence before you criticize anyone, you should have done whatever it is you’re criticizing about better than that individual or else you might just find yourself singing a different tune when placed in a similar situation as the individual you’ve been criticizing.
Remember the popular saying ‘never judge a person untill you have walked a mile in their shoes’. Some of us don’t even bother to wear the shoes at all before passing out judgement with lots of confidence. From the celebrities we’re confident that a maga paid for their vacation, to the guy we know combines his day job with fraudulent activities, we’re quick to hand out our verdict (and ending the statement with ‘It’s just my opinion’ doesn’t make it any less severe). We should realize that people are fickle, growing, learning and doing the best they can given their peculiar circumstances. While we should not condone or encourage wrong doing of any kind, maybe we can love more and give people the benefit of doubt.
A wiseman once said ‘If God can delay judgement until after death, who are we to pass judgement on others especially when we really don’t know them or the challenges they face’.
That said, we learn and grow everyday so there’s nothing to be ashamed of in saying that our former beliefs were wrong. So dears, you can change mouth, your friends will forgive you. Peace.
Benue State Monitoring Groups Uphold PDP Congresses
The Coalition Of Democracy Advocacy groups have upheld the recent conduct of party primaries held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Benue state.
The coalition led by the National Democratic Front (NDF), said the congresses were the freest and fairest conduct in the history of the party ever conducted in the party.
According the leader of the coalition, Comrade Agbese Philip, they have been in the state prior to the congresses and even monitored them in all local governments to which they found satisfactory.
He commended the leader of the party in the state and its exco for creating a level playing ground for all who participated.
According to Agbese who monitored the exercise in the Benue North East Senatorial District, the congresses have further shown the true face of the governor who is also contesting in the elections by its transparent conduct.
He further cited the example of Prince Solomon Wombo who decided to resign in order to make him eligible for such election as an uncommon occurrence which proved Suswam’s commitment to pure democracy.
The coalition has however called on the senator representing Benue North East, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and accept the outcome of the primaries as conducted.
Condemning the petition written by the former PDP chairman, they asked Gemade to instead of soiling the party’s image, accept the outcome and work hard to win the delegates to his side.
Speaking further, the leader of the group wondered why Gemade was complaining as he is famed for malpractices. He also chided the Board of Trustee member to cease from sowing seeds of discord within the party, by making incisive predictions like the unrealistic one he rendered three days to the congresses, describing him as a prophet of doom.
