It has not yet been confirmed that the baby has Ebola. The child was said to be exhibiting “Ebola-like” symptoms, however; those symptoms are also seen with people who have malaria, cholera, lassa fever, and other similar ailments. According to reports, the child was initially showing signs of malaria. But after receiving treatment for two days and showing no signs of improvement, he was taken to a private paediatric hospital. Opabola further revealed that after tests were conducted, the doctor at the hospital diagnosed the baby with “Ebola-like symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, and vomiting of contents that partly contained blood.” As a pre-caution, the doctor alerted government authorities about the patient. The government is said to have temporarily shut down the hospital where the baby was initially admitted to.
