Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue
State yesterday urged striking
workers in the state to come to
terms with the reality of their
salary cut and return to work as
his administration would not
rescind its decision.
Suswam’s reaction was based on
the resolve of the Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC) and Trade Union
Congress (TUC) to stay-off work
until the state government
reverses the deduction of workers
June salary among other demands.
“I appeal to the workers to face
the reality of the situation and
come back to work. There are two
options; either to reduce the
salaries of workers or downsize
and I felt that the second option
would be very bad for the state.
What we have done is not
reduction but we are harmonizing
workers salaries with that of
teachers so that they can be at par.
We have to take this step now
given the fact that the resources of
the nation has dwindled,” he
explained.
